DayZ Official vs Community Servers
Official servers share Bohemia's hive and rules. Community servers are someone else's world, with mods, wipes, and staff.
Official servers are the ones Bohemia operates as the public game: no Workshop stack, the shared public hive, BattlEye, and no Discord admin who will read your raid report. DayZ Manager lists them at /official. Community servers are everyone else, at /community. "Community" is not a compliment. It means a person or a studio runs the process. They might be excellent. They might be a hostname and an unattended crash loop.
The hive is the part players feel. On a public official hive, a character is not married to a single community's rules. On a private community hive, the character and the reputation stay where the admin put them. The server page shows the flag. Read persistence and hive before you carry a rare gun across a server you have not checked. The transfer you imagined may be a new life with an empty inventory and no apology.
Mods are the other part. Official servers will not run a trader. If you want the Workshop, you want modded community. If you want the base game and a short join, official or vanilla community is the path. Vanilla community can still edit loot. Official is the stricter default. The vanilla guide holds that line more carefully than a hostname will.
Moderation is why people leave official and why they come back. Official will not ban your enemy because you wrote a paragraph. Community might, if the staff is real. The tool those staffs use, when they are serious, is CFTools Cloud: RCon, a ban with a reason, a restart they announced. The host might be CFTools Architect or a box they rented. You can sometimes tell from behavior. You cannot tell from a badge on this site. We do not sell a "verified admin" tick. We show population with spoofed numbers removed, and we show the flags the server reported.
Queues happen on both. Official queues are the platform's popularity. Community queues are a server that chose a cap. Neither queue is a quality seal. Use the no queue approach when you want to play, and the chart when you want to return.
Community servers can be passworded, whitelisted, first person, or on a map Bohemia did not ship. Official servers stay inside the official map set and the official client. If the page says experimental, it is not the stable official hive either. Branch first, then official versus community.
If you want to become the community, you are taking the job official does not do for you: files, bans, wipes, a machine in the right country. Start at how to host and the provider checklist. Playing official for a weekend is still the fastest way to learn what you are about to be responsible for.
Pick the operator, then the world
Official means Bohemia's public hive, no Workshop, no one to read your report. Community means someone else owns the process. That someone might wipe on a date, run mods, set a password, or ban a cheater. They might also be absent. The chart is the crude test of absence. A community row at zero all week is not a hidden gem. It is a process with a hostname.
Hive is the surprise. Official is public. Community is often private, and the page says which. Walk in with a public-hive character and you may start empty. That is not a theft. It is the flag. Read it on the page before you convoy your friends across a server you have not opened. Mods are the other surprise. Official will not have them. The modded list is community by necessity. The vanilla list contains both official and unmodded community. Unmodded community can still edit loot. If you need the default economy, stay official and accept the lack of staff.
Queues happen on both and mean popularity, not virtue. Perspective happens on both and means the fights you will have. Map, for official, stays inside Chernarus, Livonia, and Sakhal. Community can be anywhere on the map index. Experimental official-style branches are still the experimental list, not a footnote on stable official.
You do not manage official with CFTools Cloud. You manage a community server you operate. If that is your plan, the hosting guides are the job, and official is the thing you are choosing to replace: rules, wipes, mods, a machine. Players who do not want that job should use official until they want a human, then move to a community whose page matches its hostname. There is no verified-admin badge on this index. Population with spoofed numbers removed is the evidence we publish. Behavior after you join is the evidence you keep. If the behavior is a shrug, go back to the other list. Switching is cheaper than a speech in side chat. The roster will still be there when you change your mind.
Questions
Are community servers private hives?
Often, not always. The server page shows public or private. Official servers are the public hive.
Which list is unofficial but unmodded?
Community servers that are also on the vanilla list. Loot may still be edited.
Can official servers be managed with CFTools Cloud?
Cloud is for servers you operate. You do not operate the official hive.
