DayZ First Person or Third Person
Perspective is a server setting. It changes fights. The live API will not filter it, so the server page is the source.
First person means the camera is your eyes. Third person means you can pull the camera outside your body and look around a wall. DayZ lets a server allow either or both. The choice changes every gunfight and a lot of driving. It does not change the loot table unless the admin changed that too. People argue about it as if it were a moral position. On this site it is a field on the server.
The public list API cannot filter on perspective. A live /servers query will not hide third person for you. The server page will tell you, because the detail record includes environment.perspectives. We also publish crawl snapshots at /first-person and /third-person. Those pages say when they were indexed. A server can flip the setting after the build. The detail page you open next is the one to trust before you travel with a character you care about.
If a server allows both, it is a third-person server. Anyone who wants the camera advantage will use it, and the people who refuse are choosing a handicap, not a ruleset. "1PP/3PP" in a hostname is both. "1PP only" should match a detail page where third person is off. When the name and the page disagree, believe the page, and believe the admin is careless. Careless about the camera is often careless about bans.
First-person servers are the usual home of the hardcore audience and of anyone who wants gunfights to require a body in the doorway. They are often slightly less full, because the audience is smaller. Third-person servers are the bulk of casual and heavily modded communities. Neither is more "official." Official servers exist in both styles. Check the official row you are about to join instead of assuming.
Admins set this in the server's environment, not with an RCon joke in chat. Changing it is a policy change. Announce it, and expect the population to move. A third-person community forced into first person will leave. A first-person community that wakes up to camera peeks will leave faster, and they will say so in your Discord with their whole chest. CFTools Cloud will not pick a side. It will help you run whichever side you published. If you host on CFTools Architect, the setting is still yours to write down where players can see it.
There is no hybrid that makes both groups happy on one server. Run two servers if you have the players and the staff, and name them so the perspective is the first word, not a footnote. Copy the ban list to both. A cheater you removed from the first-person server should not be welcomed by the third-person one because you forgot the file. The ban guide is that chore.
Players: decide which camera you are willing to fight against, then use the snapshot as a shortlist and the live page as the check. Join with the connect string. If you spawn and the camera is wrong, leave before you invest a base. The server will not become first person because you asked in side chat.
Check the page the day you travel
The live roster will not hide a camera for you. The detail page will. The first-person and third-person snapshots are a shortlist from the last build, and they can be stale. Open the page. If third person is allowed, the server is third person, no matter what the hostname says about "1PP friendly." Friendliness is not a setting. The setting is whether the camera exists.
Decide before you join. Switching your personal rule mid-raid is how you decide the server is toxic. It is using the camera it enabled. If you want the doorway fights, filter yourself and accept a slightly smaller population. First-person servers are often the hardcore crowd and some official rows. Third-person servers dominate casual modded communities. Vanilla exists in both. The flag does not imply the camera.
Admins who flip this setting without a wipe-level announcement will lose the half of the population that cared. Say it, restart, and expect the chart to move. Running both cameras is a choice for the third-person audience. Running two servers is the choice if you have the players and the staff to moderate both. Copy the ban list. A cheater removed from one camera should not be welcomed by the other because the file was local to a desktop. CFTools Cloud is the list that can exist once for both processes.
Do not advertise "fair PvP" on a server that allows the camera and also scolds people for using it. Either disable it or accept it. Players can read the page. They will catch you. The community list has plenty of rows that picked a side in the hostname and in the cfg. Be one of those. The snapshot will catch up on the next build. The live page can catch up on the next crawl. Your Discord should catch up before either, in a sentence, not a patch note.
Questions
Can I filter the live list to first person?
Not as a live API filter. Use the first-person snapshot, then confirm on the server page.
A server allows both. What is it?
A third-person server. Players who want the camera will use it.
Does CFTools Cloud switch perspective?
No. Perspective is a server setting. Cloud manages players and restarts after you have chosen.
