VPS, Game Panel, or CFTools Architect

Three ways to host a DayZ server, and which jobs each one actually does.

A VPS is a computer you rent. A game panel is a website that starts that computer's game process and hides some of the files. CFTools Architect is a host built for the dedicated server itself: install, branch, Workshop mods, updates, the process staying up. They get compared in one sentence because all three can end with a DayZ binary running. They should not be compared as if the invoice were the only difference.

On a raw VPS you are the panel. SteamCMD, the firewall, the @ folders, the restart if the process dies, the backup script you meant to write. That is a good deal if you already administer Linux or Windows servers and you want the files in your hands. It is a bad deal if you wanted to design a loot table and instead learned why UDP 2302 is closed. The requirements and the port list are the minimum syllabus. CFTools Architect is the product that takes that syllabus off your week. It is not a VPS with a skin. The DayZ public and experimental branches are tracked separately, and mods are first-class.

A game panel from a generic host is usually a template: a port, a slot slider, a file manager, and a mod installer of varying quality. Some are excellent. Some update DayZ by accident during your peak, or refuse the RCon port you need for CFTools Cloud. Ask the provider checklist questions before you pay. Cloud can sit on top of a server you did not host with Architect. RCon only needs the BattlEye port to be reachable and RestrictRCon set to 0. Hosting and management are separate products so you can buy the one you are missing.

Architect does not remove the need for a machine in the right country. If Architect is the host, you still pick a place your players can ping. The country guides are about that choice. A panel in a random European city is not "EU" to a player in Finland or Portugal. Look at the roster and see which countries already hold the kind of server you want to run. Proximity is a feature.

You can mix them. Architect for the process, Cloud for bans and restarts, your own head for the mission files. You can also refuse both and run a VPS, then use Cloud only for RCon so you are not living in remote desktop. The combination that fails is a panel that will not open the RCon UDP port and a community that still expects kicks at midnight. Read what RCon is before you sign a term that calls UDP "unsupported."

Price belongs on cftools.com/pricing for CFTools, and on the provider's page for everyone else. Add the hours you will spend. A cheap VPS that costs you every patch night is the expensive server. If you want the comparison in one line: the VPS is the metal, the panel is a remote control of uneven quality, Architect is the DayZ host, Cloud is the management and RCon layer. Buy the layer you are currently doing badly by hand.

Buy the layer that failed last weekend

Name the failure before you name the product. If the failure was SteamCMD, @ folders, and a process that did not come back after a reboot, you need a host that treats DayZ as the job. That is CFTools Architect. If the failure was a cheater at midnight and a BattlEye window on a sleeping PC, you need CFTools Cloud, and the VPS can stay. If the failure was a panel that only forwards TCP, you need a new host, not a new skin. The server list cannot tell which invoice you have. It can tell that you were offline.

A generic panel is a maybe. Ask it to show you the RCon UDP port, the branch, and the Workshop load order without a support ticket. If those are tickets, you are the product's debugger. Architect is the alternative where those are the product. A raw VPS is the alternative where you are the panel and you already know it. There is no fourth option where the panel is bad and you pretend it is fine because the first month was discounted.

Region survives every product choice. A perfect panel in the wrong country is a high-ping server with a nice file manager. Read the hosting notes and the crowded map you intend to run. Proximity is not a feature Architect or a VPS can fake. Pick the city, then the product.

You can move later if you kept the files. Hive, persistence, cfg, bans. A panel that cannot export is not a host. It is a lock-in. Test the export during the trial, while the world is disposable. Prices for CFTools stay on cftools.com/pricing. Prices for the VPS stay on the VPS site, next to the UDP answer they gave you in writing. If they would not write it down, you already have the comparison. Pay the vendor who will say "UDP, both branches, Workshop, RCon" without changing the subject.

Questions

Can I use CFTools Cloud without Architect?

Yes. Cloud talks BattlEye RCon. The server can live on a VPS or another host if the RCon port is reachable and RestrictRCon is 0.

Is Architect a game panel skin on a VPS?

Architect is the host for the dedicated server: install, branches, Workshop mods, updates. It is not a generic file manager with a DayZ icon.

Which one should a new community pick?

If you do not already run servers, Architect for the process and Cloud for live management. If you already run the process well, Cloud alone may be the missing piece.
